About Me
Disclaimer: Talking about myself is really difficult for me...
The Beginning....
I started making jewelry during the summer when I was 13. I needed something to keep my hands busy between waves of customers at my grandparents' orchard. I figured out that if I was doing something (anything) my Grandpa Doc wouldn't find something for me to do. . . there's only so many times boxes can be re-stacked! An interesting thing happened when a customer spotted the jewelry I'd set aside when they arrived -- she wanted to buy the earrings I was making. She ended up buying five pairs and even though I don't remember their names, I will forever remember my first sale and the tip her husband gave me for totaling the purchase without paper or calculator. My Grandma Joyce grouched that in all the years they’d owned the orchard (since 1973) she’d never gotten a tip, but Grandma also encouraged my love of rocks.
...to the Dream
I’ve toyed with the idea of starting a business for years. I took hesitant steps, like buying a domain, and never followed through. Between life getting in the way and dreading putting myself “out there”, I’ve sat on this dream for over a decade.
I’ve watched my cousin grow her pottery business in local craft fairs and an Etsy Shop while pursuing her education and becoming a teacher. Her art may sometimes take a backseat to her life, but it’s always there. I’m proud of you Sarah. If you’re in the mood to look at some pottery, please visit her Website, Instagram, or Facebook page.
What finally pushed me to take this huge (well, it’s huge for me!) step was watching an acquaintance and former co-worker leap into following his dream. He’s taken amazing risks to pursue his dream and it has inspired me to do the same -- Thank You Lion!
